US-China: Trump's tariff approach lacks a lot of 'strategic wisdom'
The Trump administration has managed to secure a 90-day truce in its trade war with China — both countries agreeing to slash their respective tariffs on the other — but is this really the first step in the US securing its ideal trade advantage over the rival superpower? Yale University's Jackson Institute of Global Affairs senior fellow Stephen Roach and Wall Street Journal chief economics commentator Greg Ip come on Market Domination to talk about the drivers in President Trump's trade decisions and tariff threats, especially against American allies. Roach also serves as the senior research scholar for the Yale Law School's Paul Tsai China Center. Ip — who is also the WSJ's deputy economics editor — published his latest column this week, titled Trump’s China Deal Makes Sense. How He Got Here Doesn’t.
