HOLLAND — What better way to kick-off the warm season than good fun, good music and great beer?
That's the idea behind Big Lake Brewing's first-ever Haze Craze Weekend, a springtime celebration running Thursday-Sunday, April 21-24. The multi-day event will include a 5K, a beer garden with live music and a pub crawl.
“We have spring fever at Big Lake, and we’re kicking off the return of hazy beer season with an annual event that will get West Michiganders outside and celebrating the place where we live,” said Travis Prueter, president of Big Lake Brewing.
“Big Lake’s Hazy IPAs like Blood Orange Haze, Cotton Candy Haze and Tangerine Haze are some of our most popular brands, and Haze Craze weekend will bring them all together through a series of signature events.”
The IPAs will be on-tap at participating stops like Itty Bitty Bar, The Curragh, HopCat and Waverly Stone Gastropub. Pub crawl shirts, available for purchase through Big Lake, will guarantee $1 off every pint ordered throughout the weekend.
The event's 5K will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, April 22. The route starts at Centennial Park and winds through Window on the Waterfront and Windmill Island before completing the loop.
"I'm a runner and I used to work at Gazelle," said general manager Jeff Genova. "Our sales director thought it might be a fun addition to the event, given that background."
The company's beer garden and live music will be available at Big Lake on Seventh Street following the 5K. Participants can exchange their race bibs for specials.

Big Lake was named the second fastest-growing brewery in Michigan two years ago.
"We have new beer that comes out every week, it seems like," Genova said. "Our patio should be opening soon, we've got some new (merchandise) and we'd love for folks to stop in."
