Fugro N.V. (AMS:FUR) Insiders Increased Their Holdings

In This Article:

We often see insiders buying up shares in companies that perform well over the long term. On the other hand, we'd be remiss not to mention that insider sales have been known to precede tough periods for a business. So before you buy or sell Fugro N.V. (AMS:FUR), you may well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling.

What Is Insider Buying?

Most investors know that it is quite permissible for company leaders, such as directors of the board, to buy and sell stock in the company. However, rules govern insider transactions, and certain disclosures are required.

We would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing. But it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing. For example, a Harvard University study found that 'insider purchases earn abnormal returns of more than 6% per year.

Fugro Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Chairman of Management Board & CEO Mark R. Heine made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for €109k worth of shares at a price of €10.95 each. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being €8.80). Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when insiders have purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price.

In the last twelve months Fugro insiders were buying shares, but not selling. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by individuals) over the last 12 months, below. Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. From our data, it seems that Fugro insiders own 0.9% of the company, worth about €6.5m. Whilst better than nothing, we're not overly impressed by these holdings.
