HSF New York arbitration partner exits for Italian firm

Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) New York arbitration partner Laurence Shore has left the firm to join Italian firm BonelliErede.

Shore originally joined HSF in London in 1995 and was made up to partner before his exit to Gibson Dunn & Crutcher's New York office in 2008.

He served as co-head of the US firm's international arbitration practice for five years before returning to HSF in 2013.

He has extensive experience representing clients in major arbitral seats, including Geneva, Paris, London, Singapore, Cairo and New York City. He also frequently sits as an arbitrator in ICC and ICDR cases. He will join BonelliErede in its Milan office.

BonelliErede has also hired former partner Andrea Carlevaris after he served as secretary general of the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris for five years, from 2012 to 2017. Between 2009 and 2012 he was a partner at the firm.

BonelliErede co-managing partners Stefano Simontacchi and Marcello Giustiniani said: Laurence and Andrea's experience further reinforces our ability to offer clients an all-round service, including for international arbitration which is particularly important and plays a synergic role in our continued internationalisation. We are one of the few firms in Italy to have a team entirely dedicated to this area.

HSF head of global arbitration Paula Hodges QC said: Larry has been a pivotal figure in establishing and developing our arbitration practice, but we completely understand his wish to relocate to Italy with his family. We wish them all the very best for the future.
