SHEBOYGAN – An independent dermatology practice opened in the city’s business district.
McGoey Dermatology, 832 Michigan Ave., offers medical, surgical and cosmetic treatment for more than 3,000 conditions in individuals of all ages.
Suzanne McGoey, who is dual board certified for dermatology and micrographic dermatologic surgery, said she wanted to open her own practice to give patients timely care in a welcoming environment.
“Going to the doctor can be intimidating,” McGoey said. “If you can set the stage for it to be a comfortable experience and enjoyable experience, I think it changes things for people.”
With no current waitlists, McGoey Dermatology can see patients in the same week for care.
She received her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. There, McGoey found dermatology combined many areas of medicine she was interested in, like surgery, pediatrics and public health.
“I can go from a patient with psoriasis to a patient with acne to a patient with lupus to a patient with melanoma,” McGoey said. "It changes lives."

Big pieces of her work are quality of life care and equipping patients with information to advocate for themselves. An aspect of dermatology that can save lives is treating cancer, McGoey added.
One way is through surgery, like Mohs micrographic surgery.
The procedure, which removes cancerous tissues while leaving the maximum amount of healthy skin intact, can have successful treatment rates upwards of 90%.
McGoey added it’s typically done under local anesthesia in an outpatient setting, which can keep costs down.
McGoey and her family have lived in Sheboygan for seven years. She is excited to become more involved in the community near the central downtown area.
"A lot of what people in Sheboygan are excited about is ... developing a relationship with a physician that's going to be here for their career and not go anywhere," she said.

The clinic's building, formerly a debt collection agency, sat vacant since January 2020.
Construction costs were estimated around $800,000 for remodeling and repairs, according to architectural review application documents.
The clinic leased space on Superior Avenue in November and moved to the building in July.
