When one door closes, that same door can open, as is the case with Lubbock's Señor Chubby's.
Señor Chubby's announced on Monday, Feb. 19, that the Mexican restaurant at 3410 98th St., Suite 1112, would close within 48 hours, depending on food availability. By Wednesday, a different restaurant confirmed that their brand would expand into the newly vacated space.
Benito's Italian Cafe & Pizzeria, which opened at 2608 Salem Ave. in April 2023, confirmed that it will add a second location at the former Mexican restaurant. The owner, Arben Hasanaj, stated in an email on Wednesday that cleaning has already begun.
The announcement from Señor Chubby's on social media mentioned that the owners were moving on to new opportunities, which were not detailed. Señor Chubby's has not responded to the A-J's questions about their future plans.
