Hogan Lovells has confirmed that O'Melveny & Myers Beijing office head and chief representative Lawrence Sussman will join the Anglo-American firm in the Chinese capital.
Sussman adivses on tax matters, transactions and regulations in China. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, he's been based in Beijng since 1998, having been a partner with O'Melveny since 2002. He practiced with Coudert Brothers before that.
At O'Melveny, Sussman represented Chinese production studio Bona Film on launching a fund with Los Angeles-based talent agency Creative Artists Agency. He also acted for Imax Corp. and Warner Brothers on investments and transactions in China. In a press release, Hogan Lovells said he would help the firm grow a U.S.-China media and entertainment business.
Sussman is the latest partner to exit O'Melveny's China practice, following the January departure of former disputes partner Nathan Bush, whose work is partly China-related. Bush joined DLA Piper in Singapore. In June 2016, former Shanghai office head Li Qiang also joined DLA Piper.
Earlier this month, The Asian Lawyer reported that Hogan Lovells Beijing partner Deanna Wong will leave the firm later this year to pursue opportuniteis outside big law firms. The office currerntly has five partners.
