Originally published by Tara Hunt on LinkedIn: Video Production Tip: Choosing a Backdrop for Your Videos
This week, my video is more of a 'how-to/tips' than I usually do, but it is in response to questions I often get about my set. In the video, I cover picking your backgrounds and framing your shots for YouTube videos. Funny enough, this process is where lots of people get hung up (and sometimes make the mistake of getting too complex).
The most important part for me (and for many of my clients) is to simplify the background so that it is comfortable and replicable, while still being interesting and reflecting their personality. In the video, I demonstrate a bunch of different options that are incredibly simple and inexpensive to set up.
For framing, the consideration is more about intimacy with the audience. I also show you in the video how different framing communicates different levels of intimacy with the audience and talk a little bit about the YouTube close-crop and why it exists.
I'll be covering other aspects of pre-production, production and post-production in the future, so throw me your questions on these topics!

Truly Social is a web series that you can share with your boss or client when they're not really "getting" social. It's also the name of my company - where we work with clients on helping them develop their own content series.
I've been working on this social stuff for over 18 years and I've been a participant in the social web since 1992. My videos (usually) come out every week ...with ~5 minute "lessons" on what are truly social practices (and what are NOT).
