Singtel sells 1.2% stake in India's Bharti Airtel for $1.54 billion

Pastel, a unit of Singtel, sold 71 million shares in Airtel at 1,814 rupees apiece, reflecting a 2.85% discount to the closing price of Airtel's stock on Thursday. Singtel, which has been an investor in Airtel for over 20 years, said its stake would drop to 28.3%, valued at around S$48 billion, from 29.5% previously. Singtel has been selling shares in Airtel -- a 3.3% stake to Bharti Telecom in 2022 and 0.8% to GQG Partners in March 2024.

Southeast Asia's largest telecom operator, SingTel, is looking to sell 47.6 million Airtel shares at a floor price of 1,800 rupees a share, a 3.6% discount to the stock's last close, the report said. Singtel's quarterly earnings nearly triple, shares hover around six-year highs

Singapore Telecommunications (Singtel) issued a positive annual earnings outlook and posted a nearly threefold increase in third-quarter earnings on Wednesday, driven by an exceptional gain, propelling its shares to near six-year highs. Shares in Singtel climbed 1.2% to S$3.4 and were on track for their strongest trading session since January 31, provided the gains hold. The firm's net profit rose 183.4% to S$1.3 billion ($968.85 million) for the three-month period ended December 31, from S$465 million last year.

SingTel secures $476 million green loan to develop data centre

Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) said on Friday that it had secured a S$643 million ($476.16 million) green loan to finance the development of a new 58 megawatt (MW) data centre in the city-state. Lenders DBS Group, OCBC, Standard Chartered, HSBC, and United Overseas Bank have financed the five-year loan, SingTel said in a statement. Green loans, used to finance the development of sustainable projects, underscore the urgent need for data centre operators to reconcile their climate goals with the explosive growth of artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing.

SingTel sees improved full-year growth as half-year profit rises

Singapore Telecommunications posted a 6% rise in underlying net profit for the half-year and gave improved guidance for the full year on Wednesday, underpinned by strength at its Australia unit Optus and technology services business NCS. Southeast Asia's largest telecoms provider also said it expects its earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) to grow at a low double-digit rate for fiscal year 2025, an improvement over earlier guidance which gave a wider range of high single-digit to low double-digit growth. SingTel shares rose 1% to S$3.19 as at 0837 GMT.

Australia's competition watchdog is taking Singapore Telecommunications-owned Optus to court, alleging it engaged in "misconduct" while selling mobile phones and plans, particularly to vulnerable customers. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) on Thursday alleged that Optus' conduct disproportionately impacted consumers and its practices were, in a way, backed by remuneration for sales staff. "In some cases, we allege Optus took steps to protect its own financial interests by clawing back commissions to sales staff but failed to remediate affected consumers," ACCC Chair Gina Cass-Gottlieb said in a statement.
