Late last year, Uncle Mike's Bake Shoppe announced plans to expand into the Fox Cities with a new "food emporium" in Grand Chute. The building, located at 3860 W. Wisconsin Ave., has been under construction since November and will be much more than a bakery.
Uncle Mike's Food Emporium will include a full-service restaurant, ice cream parlor, coffee shop and, of course, bakery (people still need kringle). In November, Mary Vande Walle, a co-owner of Uncle Mike's, said the construction of the food emporium should conclude in June. However, as of July the building looks mostly finished but has yet to open.
So, when can Fox Cities residents expect to eat kringle, pizza, ice cream and so much more at Uncle Mike's?

Grand Chute: How is progress on Uncle Mike's Food Emporium going?
Vande Walle said in a July interview with the Post-Crescent that Uncle Mike's Food Emporium will open in mid-to-late August. She said construction of the new eatery is mostly complete with only finishing touches, like installing lighting, left.
Additionally, Vande Walle said they are actively hiring staff for the food emporium and interested applicants should apply online at Uncle Mike's Bake Shoppe's website. Listed positions for the Appleton restaurant include sous chef, line cook, server, dishwasher, customer experience specialist, bartender, busser and host.
"It's exciting. It's gonna be a lot of work," Vande Walle said about the opening on the new business.

Appleton: What's happening with the Oneida Street Pizza Hut?
The building that currently houses Pizza Hut at 1924 E. Oneida St. in Appleton is listed for sale. John Kardelis, senior vice president for Colliers, a commercial real estate company that is managing the sale of the property, said the property is being sold, and Pizza Hut is expected to move out.
Kardelis said Pizza Hut had plans to move to a new location but was unable to provide a timeline for when the eatery will move or where the new location is.
However, the Pizza Hut website lists a new Pizza Hut location at 3825 E. Calumet St. as "coming soon."
Pizza Hut did not respond to the Post-Crescent's request for comment.
Appleton: Zips Car Wash was approved for the Northland Shopko. Is that still happening?
