People who lack career confidence have career stories in their heads that rationalize how they got there. The story is detailed. It's fully of twists, turns, and tumbles they weren't prepared for. It's also got a villain. And, it stars them as the victim. But, what the story lacks is a hero. And therefore, there's no ending. Especially, not a happy one. People who lack career confidence are waiting around for a hero to magically appear. But, there's no 'career fairy godmother.' And, there's definitely no 'career crusader' coming to save the day.
Want to get your career confidence back? Be your own hero.
Here's the good news: being the hero in your own career story isn't that difficult. Think about all the heroes you've watched in a movie or TV show. They usually have some major struggle. But then, they get a new tool, resource, or reason to succeed that suddenly enables them to fight back and win. All you need to do is find something that provides you with new perspective and opportunities so you can win your career confidence back. Ask yourself this, "What can I research and learn today that will help me get smarter and more empowered in my career?" Heroes never stop exploring, learning, or growing. They always look for answers - and they don't stop until they find them.
