Oct. 13—HENDERSON — Some 23 teams representing organizations and businesses in Vance County descended on Kerr Lake Country Club for the 25th Annual Chamber Challenge to benefit Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce.
Employees with Killian Engineering, HG Reynolds, Walmart Distribution, Vance-Granville Community College, et al competed for one of three grant prizes.
Vance Charter School's team, composed of Athletic Director Lance Stallings, Chip Stallings, Brandon Winslow and Joseph Weinberger, ended the day in first place, taking home a trophy, a $25 gift card to Ribeye's of Henderson and a box of golf balls.
In second place was MR Williams' team — Daniel Falkner, Tyler Beauchamp, Andy Miller and Robert Miller — who earned a trophy, a $25 gift card to George's and a sleeve of golf balls. In third place was The Pegram Agency — Ray Pegram, Joey Thompson, Jared Bennett and Tommy Overcash, which won a trophy and a $20 Jersey Mike's gift card.
Skill contests also dotted around the course, including a hole-in-one challenge for a new car. There were plenty of contenders, but no winners.
The award for Longest Drive went to Tucker Cardwell from Brewer Cycles. Dottie Schmit and Judy Priode with Corinth Baptist Church and Margier White State Farm Insurance, respectively, won the two challenges for closest to the pin.
The day was a total success, "spectacular," said Chamber President Sandra Wilkerson. The number of teams was at capacity.
"We could not have asked for better weather," she said, along with thanking the event's sponsors. "It just makes an overall day of enjoyment, pleasure, networking and having fun. It wasn't about the competition — the players want to play and win, but it's not all about that. It's about having fun on a day of business, and getting out there and networking, mingling and collaborating."
Collaboration is the Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce's theme this year.
Kerr Lake Country Club has one of two golf courses in the county. The chamber alternates between that one and the other at Henderson Country Club.
