New Disney stores at Target now open, featuring 'Frozen 2' and Star Wars merchandise

Trips to select Target stores just got a little more "magical."

New Disney stores in 25 Target locations opened Friday across the country in time for Frozen Fan Fest and Triple Force Friday, the global rollout of merchandise from "Frozen 2" and "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker."

Items also went on sale at Target.com/Disneystore and on the Target mobile app.

The Disney store at Target locations have a "shop-in-shop" layout with an average of 750 square feet. They are located near Target's kids clothing and toy departments and have more than 450 items, including more than 100 products previously only available at Disney retail locations.

The Target and Disney partnership was announced Aug. 25 during Disney's D23 Expo.

“We’ve brought the magic of Disney to Target, bringing together great merchandise amidst an experience that’s truly immersive and unique,” said Mark Tritton, Target executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, in a news release.

Another 40 locations are likely to open by October 2020, and a new Target store is planned for 2021 at the western entrance of the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida at Flamingo Crossings Town Center.

“Now that an enhanced Disney product assortment is available at Target – including new merchandise from 'Frozen 2' and 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' – I know fans are eager to discover and explore everything this collaboration has to offer,” Ken Potrock, Disney’s president of consumer products commercialization, said in a statement.

In addition to Star Wars and Disney Princess items, shops will carry a variety of merchandise featuring Marvel, Disney Junior characters, classic Disney plush, apparel, home and holiday-specific products.

The mini-stores will offer “a welcoming and engaging shopping experience for the entire family, with music, interactive displays, photo opportunities and a seating area where families can relax and watch Disney movie clips and play games," Target and Disney said in a joint statement.

Photo ops include the chance to “wear Mickey’s magic hat, pose with a life-size lightsaber and wear a prince or princess crown.”

Saving on Disney items at Target

  • The first 250 guests to visit the 25 store locations will receive a Disney store at Target canvas tote bag, while supplies last.

  • For the grand opening and through Saturday, Oct. 5, consumers shopping at the new Disney stores and on the new website will receive a $10 Target gift card with a $40 purchase of Frozen or Star Wars toys.

  • According to Target, items range in price from $2 to $200, with many items under $20.

  • From Sunday through Oct. 12, guests spending $50 on toys at Target in store or online will save $10 and those who spend $100 will save $25.

  • Consumers using a Target RedCard save 5% on Disney purchases at Target.
