DARTMOUTH — For a year, the SouthCoast has anxiously awaited the debut of a new Donut Factory. The icing on the doughnut is that day is finally here.
The popular Fairhaven shop will be expanding its brand of eye-catching sweet and savory creations — from gourmet doughnuts and over-the-top milkshakes to signature steampockets — to a second home in Dartmouth this Friday, said owner Jackie Webb.
A Donut Factory Express site is set to open its doors at 246 State Road on April 5 at 6 a.m., and the Westport resident is eager to finally be able to offer yet another place for folks to get their Donut Factory fix.
"I'm so excited. It doesn't feel real," Webb said on Wednesday after clearing the final hurdle with the town before launch.
Initial plans were to open a location further down Route 6 in Westport by last March, but those plans hit a snag and were ultimately scrapped, shifting focus to the Dartmouth site. The Express project was announced late last summer and after a "tremendous amount of trenchwork" and more renovations than anticipated, it's ready to be unveiled.
"It's been a long time coming and I'm happy that it's finally coming to fruition," said Webb, a Swansea native and Case High School graduate.
A new dessert destination: Donut Factory's delicious baked treats will be closer than ever
Donut Factory is a family effort. Webb operates the Fairhaven site with the help of her mother Melody and sister Katie Webb, the latter of whom will serve as manager of the Dartmouth store.
What to expect at Donut Factory Dartmouth
Located just five minutes away from their flagship shop, the Dartmouth location will offer carryout service only, with no inside seating. There you'll find the same menu staples as in Fairhaven, with some exceptions.
Dartmouth will be serving their popular linguica rolls — which has garnered a nod from foodie show "Phantom Gourmet" — and cheese rolls, as well as ice cream sundaes, muffins, bagels, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, signature X Factor iced coffee and lattes. The State Road spot will also feature a milkshake station, Webb said.
They’ll be stocked with the same full selection of their mainstay classic and fancy doughnuts at both locations, Webb said, but a more "narrow" lineup of steampockets in Dartmouth. Dartmouth will carry only their top sellers — linguica and cheese, linguica Sao Jorge, cheese, and cacoila, and on weekends the specialty pocket.
For folks who want something savory for lunch, Donut Factory Dartmouth will also have elevated mac and cheese offerings — from chicken cordon bleu to cheeseburger mac to Mediterranean with feta, spinach, chopped tomato and grilled chicken.
