Whilst it may not be a huge deal, we thought it was good to see that the Solstice Gold Corp. (CVE:SGC) Independent Director, Michael Gentile, recently bought CA$114k worth of stock, for CA$0.011 per share. While we're hesitant to get too excited about a purchase of that size, we do note it increased their holding by a solid 40%.

Solstice Gold Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Lead Independent Director Blair Schultz bought CA$175k worth of shares at a price of CA$0.02 per share. We do like to see buying, but this purchase was made at well below the current price of CA$0.035. While it does suggest insiders consider the stock undervalued at lower prices, this transaction doesn't tell us much about what they think of current prices.
Happily, we note that in the last year insiders paid CA$590k for 40.57m shares. But they sold 9.84m shares for CA$197k. In the last twelve months there was more buying than selling by Solstice Gold insiders. They paid about CA$0.015 on average. To my mind it is good that insiders have invested their own money in the company. However, we do note that they were buying at significantly lower prices than today's share price. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below. There are always plenty of stocks that insiders are buying. If investing in lesser known companies is your style, you could take a look at this free list of companies. (Hint: insiders have been buying them).
Does Solstice Gold Boast High Insider Ownership?
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Solstice Gold insiders own about CA$3.8m worth of shares (which is 52% of the company). This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
What Might The Insider Transactions At Solstice Gold Tell Us?
The recent insider purchases are heartening. And an analysis of the transactions over the last year also gives us confidence. But on the other hand, the company made a loss during the last year, which makes us a little cautious. When combined with notable insider ownership, these factors suggest Solstice Gold insiders are well aligned, and quite possibly think the share price is too low. One for the watchlist, at least! In addition to knowing about insider transactions going on, it's beneficial to identify the risks facing Solstice Gold.
