Kathy Steiner: 2023 Progress Edition features companies in Jamestown

Mar. 29—Manufacturers — and other Jamestown businesses — need employees. Today's annual Progress Edition — "Business, Workforce, Retention" — features some of those manufacturers and other businesses in our community.

Most of the manufacturing companies included in the

Progress Edition

have been in business for years and are looking to grow. But they need employees and many of those companies are willing to train them.

Jamestown is home to a number of manufacturers. The Progress Edition features Collins Aerospace, Champ Industries USA, Shocker Hitch, Midmach, Sunward Steel Buildings and Newman Signs. Also included are Applied Digital Corp. and Cavendish Farms.

The Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corp. is also instrumental in helping to recruit primary-sector or value-added manufacturing businesses to the area, creating a healthy community by adding value and jobs.

Finding employees is a challenge for most businesses. There are programs available to create opportunities to help with the labor shortage. Students are interested in opportunities to learn at Jamestown businesses, and the James Valley Career and Technology Center's work-based learning program gives them the means to do that. At the same time, an employer could find a potential future employee by providing that opportunity.

JSDC is offering programs that support increasing opportunities for child care, a key workforce issue, and help employers recruit and retain future employees.

Many other Jamestown businesses are also featured in this edition and we appreciate their support for this annual project to tell their stories as well.

The Progress Edition is a 44-page supplement that has been in development for three months.

While not all of Jamestown's companies could be featured, we appreciate those that were willing to share information about what they do and the products they provide.

There are many good jobs available in Jamestown — spread the word.
