We often see insiders buying up shares in companies that perform well over the long term. On the other hand, we'd be remiss not to mention that insider sales have been known to precede tough periods for a business. So we'll take a look at whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Renascor Resources Limited (ASX:RNU).
What Is Insider Selling?
It is perfectly legal for company insiders, including board members, to buy and sell stock in a company. However, such insiders must disclose their trading activities, and not trade on inside information.
We would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing. But equally, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether. For example, a Columbia University study found that 'insiders are more likely to engage in open market purchases of their own company’s stock when the firm is about to reveal new agreements with customers and suppliers'.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Renascor Resources
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when David Clarke bought AU$3.1m worth of shares at a price of AU$0.018 per share. That implies that an insider found the current price of AU$0.021 per share to be enticing. Of course they may have changed their mind. But this suggests they are optimistic. We do always like to see insider buying, but it is worth noting if those purchases were made at well below today's share price, as the discount to value may have narrowed with the rising price. In this case we're pleased to report that the insider purchases were made at close to current prices. Notably David Clarke was also the biggest seller, having sold AU$355k worth of shares.
Happily, we note that in the last year insiders paid AU$3.1m for 175.1m shares. But they sold 21.0m for AU$355k. Overall, Renascor Resources insiders were net buyers last year.
