July is the month for made-up chicken holidays.
Saturday is a crispy one with National Fried Chicken Day. National chains are celebrating with offers of free delivery, discounted meals and free food with some offers available through Sunday. Many July 4th specials also continue.
Brad Plothow, vice president of brand and communications for Womply, a small business software provider, said based on an analysis of Chicken Day last year it's expected to be a busy day for local restaurants.
"If you find yourself in the mood for some comfort food on Saturday, expect to compete with bigger crowds of hungry patrons," Plothow said.
Then Tuesday is a chicken-based holiday that shows appreciation to another animal. It's Chick-fil-A's Cow Appreciation Day and the popular chain is giving away free chicken to anyone who dresses up like a cow.
National Chicken Wing Day rounds out the month on July 29, which also is National Lasagna Day.

July deals: How and where to get free food – from chicken to ice cream – plus discounts
Here are discounts and offers available Saturday at participating locations but many continue through July 7. Offers can vary and most times are offered while supplies last. To be on the safe side, always check with your closest location before heading out. Also, some will require you to have a restaurant's app or be signed up for emails.
Burger King: For a limited time, get a 10-piece order of nuggets for $1.49. Check the fast-food chain's app for offers including a coupon for free four-piece nuggets with purchase that expires 11:59 p.m. PT July 8.
Church's Chicken: Find various coupons at www.churchs.com/coupons. The coupons valid through July 28 vary by state.
Cracker Barrel: The chain recently introduced its Southern Fried Chicken Picnic Box, which is designed to serve a family of four and includes 12 pieces of the Southern Fried Chicken, a choice of two country sides and buttermilk biscuits for $33.99.
Dog Haus: For National Fried Chicken Day Saturday, get the “Bad Mutha Clucka” for $5. Dine-in only and no additions or substitutions.
KFC: Through Sunday, with the purchase of any KFC 10, 12, or 16-piece chicken-on-the-bone meal in restaurants or through Grubhub, get four free limited time only Cinnabon Dessert Biscuits. There's also free delivery through Sunday on KFC orders placed through Grubhub or Seamless apps or websites. Plus, for a limited time, try KFC's new Cheetos Sandwich.
Hurricane Grill & Wings: Through Sunday, get 20% off Party Platters with a minimum $50 order.
McDonald's: Check the fast-food chain's app for coupons.
O'Charley's: Through Sunday, the restaurant has two specials: Get the Family Chicken Tenders Dinner with 20 tenders, eight sides and three dipping sauces for $25 or the Ribs Picnic Pack with four portions of ribs, four sides and a whole pie for $40.
PDQ: Through Sunday, buy one platter of 25 or 50-piece tenders and get a platter free. Not valid for delivery or drive-thru orders.
Pollo Campero: Through Sunday, the chain is offering free delivery with no minimum purchase for orders on the restaurant's app and website.
Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen: For a limited time, Popeyes has the $10 Bigger Box, which comes with four pieces of bone-in chicken or six tenders with two regular sides, two biscuits and two apple pies. Also for a limited time, get $5 Parmesan Ranch Double Dippers, which include six boneless wings, choice of one side, a biscuit and dual-dipping side of Parmesan Ranch.
Slim Chickens: On Saturday, get a $5.99 Chick's Meal. This deal is available for dine-in, drive-thru, online ordering, app and pick-up. It's not valid with delivery orders and there's a limit of one per person.
Sonic Drive-In: Through Aug. 4, Sonic has Summertime BLTs starting at $3.99, which includes a chicken BLT. Plus find other savings with the Sonic app, which can be downloaded at www.sonicdrivein.com/app.
Wendy's: Through July 14, get a free half size salad with purchase using the Wendy's app, plus find other limited-time offers on the app. Also mark your calendar for Aug. 19, which is when spicy nuggets return to Wendy's.
Wing Zone: Find coupons at https://orderonline.wingzone.com/Specials.
More deals: Locally owned businesses and regional chains also may have specials for Fried Chicken Day. One of the easiest ways to find out is to check restaurants' social media channels.
