Shoppers at Lubbock's Market Street stores may have noticed the recent disappearance of the salad bars. This is not a coincidence, as the company confirmed on Friday that the bars will be replaced with something different.
The United Family, which owns United, Market Street and Amigos grocery stores, has done away with the popular salad bars.
"We know the salad bar has been a beloved feature of stores for a long time, but due to a dip in usage over the past few years and our guests' evolving needs, we strive to continually meet these needs," said Joey Marcades, communications manager for The United Family, in an emailed statement.

The self-serve salad bar will be replaced with prepackaged salad options and a new soup station as the company shifts its focus on prepackaged meals.
"Our goal is to provide more convenient options for our guests through our prepackaged, made-in-house ReadyMeal solutions," Marcades said. "Guests will also have other fresh salad options through our fresh tossed salad station, where they can customize their salad at participating locations."
The Market Street stores on 98th Street and Quaker Avenue and at 50th Street and Indiana Avenue have the tossed salad stations currently.
