It is not uncommon to see companies perform well in the years after insiders buy shares. Unfortunately, there are also plenty of examples of share prices declining precipitously after insiders have sold shares. So we'll take a look at whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Grange Resources Limited (ASX:GRR).
Do Insider Transactions Matter?
It's quite normal to see company insiders, such as board members, trading in company stock, from time to time. However, most countries require that the company discloses such transactions to the market.
Insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing. But logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares. For example, a Columbia University study found that 'insiders are more likely to engage in open market purchases of their own company’s stock when the firm is about to reveal new agreements with customers and suppliers'.

Grange Resources Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
The , Cheung Ko, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for AU$836k worth of shares at a price of AU$0.19 each. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (AU$0.28). We generally consider it a negative if insiders have been selling on market, especially if they did so below the current price, because it implies that they considered a lower price to be reasonable. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. This single sale was just 4.7% of Cheung Ko's stake. The only individual insider seller over the last year was Cheung Ko.

Have Grange Resources Insiders Traded Recently?
Over the last three months, we've seen a bit of insider buying at Grange Resources. Independent Non-Executive Director Michael Dontschuk shelled out AU$7.7k for shares in that time. We like it when there are only buyers, and no sellers. But in this case the amount purchased means the recent transaction may not be very meaningful on its own.
