'Rich's Christmas Spectacular!': Local improv club gains community momentum

Nov. 30—The Yuba-Sutter Improv Club is gearing up to host its first family friendly all ages show at the Yuba City Charter School in Yuba City.

The charter school has a relatively new black box theater and has recently teamed up with The Acting Company in Yuba City to offer an after school drama program that is open to the community.

The school is now adding a collaboration with the region's only improv club to feature "Rich's Christmas Spectacular!" This holiday themed show will highlight some of the club's best performers who will work their magic to spontaneously create scenes and stories based on suggestions from the audience.

Rich Fifield, one of the club's head instructors, will serve as host.

"I'm extremely excited to bring the Christmas cheer to the Yuba-Sutter community," said Fifield. "And to make all your wildest dreams come true."

"Riches Christmas Spectacular!" will play for two nights only, Dec. 8 and 9, both starting at 7:30 p.m. Audiences are encouraged to come 30 minutes early to stake out the best seats and enjoy music, crafts, and snacks. Students and children are permitted for free. Tickets for adults will be available at the door. Cash is preferred, but leaders will also accept mobile payments. Admission costs $10 each, with a $5 discount applied to those who wear "Christmas stuff." The venue is located on the campus of Yuba City Charter School, located at 256 Wilbur Ave. in Yuba City.

"Rich's Christmas Spectacular!" comes on the heels of yet another inspiring community collaboration. Over the past six months, the club has hosted workshops with Center Stage Productions, Yuba County Library, and most recently Lincoln Elementary School in Yuba City. All of these have been geared toward children between the ages of 7 and 17. In order to provide a more permanent home for youth-based improv workshops, Tri-Counties Community Center in Marysville has opened its door to the club on the second Friday of each month starting in January 2024. These second Fridays will involve a youth-centered workshop from 5:30-7 p.m. followed by a family friendly show. More information will be announced in the coming weeks as organizers look forward to making improv more accessible to everyone.
