Saint Joseph Saint Luc Hospital in Lyon, France, has entered into a ten-year Energy and Environmental Performance Contract (EEPC) with Eiffage Énergie Systèmes, part of domestic construction company Eiffage.
The goal is to decrease the hospital's annual energy usage by 40%.
Constructed in 2002, Saint Joseph Saint Luc Hospital has not undergone any substantial renovations to its heating, ventilation, or air-conditioning systems (HVAC) until now.
Amid escalating energy costs and stricter regulations, the project's goals are to modernise these systems, strengthen electrical safety, reduce carbon footprint, and ensure uninterrupted patient care.
Eiffage Énergie Systèmes has tailored a proposal to meet the hospital's unique needs, which qualifies for Energy Savings Certificates.
The plan includes energy performance improvements and a ten-year operation-maintenance agreement, aligning with the tertiary sector decree's objective of a 40% energy consumption reduction in buildings by 2030.
This strategy not only extends the life of existing facilities but also ensures the modernisation and security of the technical network.
Moreover, the hospital has established a technical team to oversee the contract's execution and performance.
The project is set to begin in late 2025, following a design phase, with completion expected by the end of 2026, without affecting the hospital's services.
Saint Joseph Saint Luc Hospital director of property, purchasing and operations Gilles Chambry said: “This project illustrates our determination to preserve continuity of care by securing our entire infrastructure, but also to gain energy autonomy and reduce our environmental footprint.
"It's a concrete, long-term commitment to energy transition by Saint Joseph Saint Luc Hospital.”

Last month, Eiffage Construction, another division of Eiffage, completed the delivery of three production halls for Airbus Atlantic in Rochefort, France.
