Who Has Been Selling argenx SE (EBR:ARGX) Shares?

In This Article:

We often see insiders buying up shares in companies that perform well over the long term. On the other hand, we’d be remiss not to mention that insider sales have been known to precede tough periods for a business. So we’ll take a look at whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in argenx SE (EBR:ARGX).

Do Insider Transactions Matter?

It is perfectly legal for company insiders, including board members, to buy and sell stock in a company. However, most countries require that the company discloses such transactions to the market.

We don’t think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions. But logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares. As Peter Lynch said, ‘insiders might sell their shares for any number of reasons, but they buy them for only one: they think the price will rise.’

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At argenx

CEO & Executive Director Tim Van Hauwermeiren made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for €2.4m worth of shares at a price of €80.82 each. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (€91.80). While sellers have a variety of reasons for selling, this isn’t particularly great to see. We generally consider it a negative if insiders have been selling on market, especially if they did so below the current price. Please note, however, that this single sale was 62.7% of Tim Van Hauwermeiren’s stake.

Over the last year, we note insiders sold 91.19k shares worth €6.5m. All up, insiders sold more shares in argenx than they bought, over the last year. The average sell price was around €71.69. It’s not particularly great to see insiders were selling shares around current prices. While some insiders have decided to take some money off the table, we wouldn’t put too much weight on this fact.
