Feb. 28—GROVE CITY — A pizza shop, greenhouse and more are in the works for Grove City borough.
Signs are going up in several parts of the borough, where residents have been wondering what might become of some vacant properties.
Domino's is opening a restaurant downtown at 150 S. Broad St., which is next to Nancy's Hair Loft.
Previous occupants have included the Olde Town Grove City Winter Market, an insurance agency and the Alley Cat book store and gift shop.
Across the street, renovations have started on the building that will house Allegheny Consolidated, a financial consultant, and K-9 Confections, which makes pet treats.
The previous business at 117 S. Broad St. was Dream Maker Mattress.
Up the road a bit is Parker's Parlor, which has opened at 113 N. Broad St., most recently home to Allie's Sweet Tooth; the bakery now operates in Mercer.
The menu includes Hershey's ice cream, milkshakes, sundaes, hot dogs and more.
Also downtown:
—Grove City Brew Haus recently opened at 147 S. Broad St.;
—Steigerwald's Kitchens and Baths moved from 120 S. Broad St. to 1037 E. Gilmore Road just outside the borough;
—Transformation Church has taken over the Steigerwald property
On the other side of town, Weingartner Greenhouse is expanding its New Castle-based business and setting up shop across from Memorial Park at 1207 W. Main St.
Greenhouses are being constructed on the property, which sits between Grove City Beverage and Morris Muzzleloading on state Route 58.
The sign notes that it's expected to open in April.
And the community has been abuzz with the announcement that Chick-fil-A is coming to Grove City College.
The announcement was made several weeks ago, when Chick-fil-A ambassador Trudy Cathy White — the daughter of franchise founders Truett and Jeannette Cathy — delivered the J. Paul Sticht '39 Memorial Lecture in Business and Ethics at the college.
The restaurant will be in the Breen Student Union where the GeDUNL grille is now. It will be open to the public and will be part of the student meal plan.
