Jakarta, Indonesia
Top Singaporean firm Allen & Gledhill has formed an alliance in Indonesia with Jakarta-based Soemadipradja & Taher.
Soemadipradja & Taher is a full-service firm with 10 partners founded in 1991 by mining specialist Rahmat Soemadipradja and disputes specialist Hafzan Taher. The firm also has a secondment agreement with Australian firm Corrs, and Japan's Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu has its Jakarta desk in Soemadipradja & Taher.
As part of the Indonesia alliance, Allen & Gledhill has hired Dutch lawyer Oene Marseille as a foreign law partner in Singapore from Indonesian firm ABNR, where he was a foreign legal counsel. Marseille, who specializes in mergers and acquisitions and corporate and commercial transactions, will work closely with Soemadipradja & Taher to expand the two firms in Indonesia.
Elsewhere in Southeast Asia, the Singaporean firm also has associations in Malaysia with Rahmat Lim & Partners and in Myanmar with Allen & Gledhill (Myanmar) Co. Ltd.
Other top Singaporean firms also have tie-ups in Indonesia, which is the largest economy among the Association of Southeast Asian Nations countries. WongPartnership formed an alliance with Makes & Partners, and Rajah & Tann added Assegaf Hamzah & Partners into its regional network, both in 2014. Singapore-listed Southeast Asian firm ZICO Law added Jakarta-based Roosdiono & Partners into its network in 2005.
Singapore-based RHTLaw Taylor Wessing's Indonesian alliance ended last year after five years as Hanafiah Ponggawa & Partners combined with Dentons in September 2018.
