May 9 - Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) has encountered a setback in its push to trademark the term Robotaxi for its vehicles, according to a report.
The office issued a nonfinal office action, a procedural step that gives Tesla three months to respond or risk losing the application. The company is also seeking to trademark Robotaxi for a future ride-hailing service, but that application remains under review.
Separately, Tesla's efforts to secure rights to the term Cybercab have stalled. The USPTO flagged the application due to conflicts with existing or pending trademarks containing the word Cyber, the report said.
In April, the company reiterated plans to launch its paid autonomous ride-hailing service in Austin, Texas, by June. However, it also warned that global trade uncertainties and shifting political attitudes could weigh on product demand and lead it to reevaluate growth expectations.
Shares of Tesla were 6% up on Thursday trading.
