Lyft CEO on prioritizing customers & investors: You have to do both

Shares of ride-hailing giant Lyft (LYFT) are rising as high as 20% Friday morning after the company narrowly missed earnings estimates ($1.45 billion vs. forecasts of $1.47 billion) and posted a profit of $0.01 per share (a loss of $0.68 per share was forecasted). What's really pushing the stock higher is Lyft's announcement of a $750 million share buyback program and second quarter forecasts for gross bookings. Lyft stock jumps on Q2 outlook and $750 million stock buyback

Lyft (LYFT) reported its first quarter earnings after the closing bell on Thursday. Revenue came in at $1.45 billion, lower than the $1.47 billion expected, whereas earnings per share (EPS) came in at $0.01, higher than the loss of $0.68 expected. The company reported strong numbers for gross bookings and rides and announced a new $750 million stock buyback. Lyft expects to see $4.41 billion to $4.57 billion in gross bookings in the second quarter — higher than the $4.48 billion expected. Wolfspeed shares sink on going-concern fears, slowing EV sales hit annual revenue forecast

The company is squeezed between sluggish demand in the industrial and automotive markets, while rival Chinese manufacturers such as Sicc Co and EpiWorld International are gaining ground with inexpensive wafers, which are thin slices of semiconductor material used to make chips. Wolfspeed's customers are also grappling with tariff-induced uncertainty, with General Motors trimming its 2025 profit forecast, while Mercedes-Benz had pulled its earnings outlook for 2025. Its departing CFO Neill Reynolds said in a post-earnings call that the company may need to pursue in-court options to renegotiate its debt and that "going concern" language could be added to the quarterly filing.
